Southwestern Japan is an underrated travel destination, but some of the most interesting and famous cities are on Kyushu Island. Take look around Nagasaki, Kagoshima, and Minamata. Of course, Tokyo, Osaka, and Nara are classic destinations. But if you want to have the best of both extremes, check out Okinawa and Hokkaido (Sapporo and Niseko) for a shock of hot and cold!
